Phosphorus recovery

Through the use of phosphorus-containing materials in
Fertilizers we face two problems: increasing
Pollution and low inventories.

Phosphorus Recovery – Leachphos

Process in the field of sewage sludge ash Leachphos is a wet-chemical phosphorus recycling process from municipal sewage sludge ash from mono-incineration. In the leaching process, raw phosphorus is extracted from the sewage sludge ash using diluted mineral acid. In further stages, the phosphorus is processed into fertilizer or phosphoric acid, which complies with the environmental requirements of the Fertilizer Act and supports the principles of the circular economy.

Phosphorus is a secondary resource in municipal sewage sludge. In cooperation with ZAR and AWEL, we have verified extraction (urban mining) using wet-chemical methods from sewage sludge ash from thermal sewage sludge recycling (mono-incineration) based on the FAW process in a demo plant (EWB Bern).
